The Siemens 3RK3 modular safety system (MSS) is a freely parameterizable modular safety controller. The modular safety relay enables the interconnection of several safety applications. The comprehensive error and status diagnostics provide the possibility of finding errors in the system and localizing signals from sensors resulting in the reduction of plant downtimes. Its basic central unit is used wherever more than 3 safety functions have to be analysed and parameterizing the wiring of safety relays would be time-consuming and expensive to implement. This safety relay reads inputs along with controls outputs and communicates with higher-level controllers via an interface module. The entire safety program of an application is processed in the central unit. At the smallest configuration level, the 3RK3 basic central unit is already functional without the expansion modules that can be connected as options.
